Component Online Shield

The Online Shield component consists of two major parts aimed to protect you from malware when browsing the Internet and chatting online.

Unlike the LinkScanner component, which detects exploits and other more complex online threats, the Online Shield component recognizes common viruses and spyware.

Web Protection

This crucial part of the Online Shield component works as a real-time protection when surfing the Internet; it scans the contents of visited web pages, and possible files included in them, even before these are displayed in your web browser or downloaded to your computer. If the Web Protection detects that the page you are about to visit includes some dangerous javascript, it prevents the page from being displayed. Also, it recognizes viruses and  spyware contained in a page and stops the download instantly so that it never gets to your computer.

Instant Messaging Shield

This additional part of the Online Shield component protects you when chatting online via the most popular clients: ICQ, MSN and Yahoo. You can enable or disable the shield for each client, and in the advanced settings, you can also create a whitelist (users allowed to communicate with you) or blacklist (blocked users).

Settings

Uncheck the Enable Online Shield box to turn off the Online Shield component. We recommend keeping the box checked at all times, otherwise you are no longer protected against dangerous contents of web sites while browsing the Internet.
